What is 4-AcO-MET?

4-Acetoxy-N-methyl-N-ethyltryptamine, also known as 4-AcO-MET, is a lesser known psychedelic substance belonging to the tryptamine class. Similar to psilocybin, this substance produces psychedelic effects. It is related to other psychedelic tryptamines, such as 4-AcO-DMT. It may act as a prodrug for 4-HO-MET. Little information exists on the pharmacological properties, metabolism and toxicity of 4-AcO-MET, with limited human use. Available as a research chemical online, it is sometimes sold on the street as “Acomet” or “Azomet” in northern Switzerland. Chemically, it is a synthetic indole alkaloid with a tryptamine structure, substituted with an acetoxy group. It is considered an acetate ester analog of 4-HO-MET and the N-alkylated ethyl homologue of 4-AcO-DMT. Given the limited knowledge about the substance, harm reduction practices are strongly recommended when using it.
